looking out your kitchen window
we played charades with the clouds
you saw a catCloud, I saw a
wishCloud and you gave me my
first kiss, not the way I imagined it,
it was practically perfect except
for untangling your bracelet when
it got caught in my sweater. I was
sitting there thinking your mom
might catch us and I was sitting there
hoping we'd never get separated
and then we did.
I spilled a glass of ginger ale and
all the clouds disappeared.

fond memories
lovely.
Ooohhhh...how very, very sweet and cotton candy-like and whimsical and cheerful and how all things wonderful-y! Siiiiggghhh.... :)
this is so sweet. my heart smiles through this poem.
This is really good, and so very true of the first love.
I just shared this on my wall on Facebook! :) I am so sure all my friends will love it as much as I do! :) It's my favorite poem like ever! :) I picture two kids back in the 1950's. :) So so sweet. Or maybe the 1930's. :)
i love it!
Hey. I posted on my facebook, too. Got the idea from Ms. Charity. I have a few friends who will appreciate the beauty of these words.
I hope you don't mind my sharing...
I just made a post on my blog telling all my readers to "click" and read this poem! :) :)
Thank you Charity. You are, dare I say it again, too kind.
Robert - thanks for the comment. . . yes fond memories. . .
Charlotte - I am glad you liked this poem.
Charity 1 - would you like to know something even funnier? I had never eaten cotton candy until we were on vacation two weeks ago and my children wanted some. Neither of them could finish what we bought. . . so I ate some. And. . . oh boy is it sweet. I'll bet there's a blog posting in there somewhere. . . in two words or less! what was your first kiss like? Mine: cotton candy. Yours?
littlekhargosh - that's an interesting name. . . I'll have to visit your site. Thank you for the comment. My heart smiles too when I think of how innocent the very young can be. . . if they're lucky and allowed to be young. And we were.
Mom 1 - thank you. First love, once again, if we're lucky is about silly games and getting snagged on something that makes for more fun and worrying about being caught and hoping it lasts forever and spilling the ginger ale. I don't ever consider myself the writer of these things, just the person through whom certain ideas flow. The game ended when the clouds disappeared. . . usually love ends when the clouds disappear. I think that's ironic. I'm not sure.
Charity 2 - thank you for sharing on facebook. . . you're teasing me into setting up an account. I am glad you like the poem that much. Picture 2 kids. . . way back, way, way back in 1969.
Candy - I am so glad you love it. Thank you for the comment.
Mom 2 - Thank you also for sharing on facebook. That's so very kind of you. If you haven't seen Charity's site yet. . . you should. There is a poem she's written called Human which is incredible. I do not know how to create links from comments. If I did, I would have linked the poem here.
Again everyone thank you.
